Box of Shadows – Trailer
Posted on March 12th, 2010 No commentsPulled this off their official website… A different kind of movie. It sounds pretty cool:
BOX OF SHADOWS, centers around a group of college friends, who discover a 15th century coffin that allows them to experience the world as ghosts. While their first adventures in the spirit world are playful and innocent, the “Box of Shadows” soon brings out the group’s most dangerous impulses and desires. The friends find themselves pulled into a world of evil where they learn the line between life and death is there for a reason.
Yeah… I’m there. Release scheduled for July 2, 2010. I think I need to start a “wish list” of movies that I want to see… gets a bit rough keeping track. By the way, don’t forget to check out my movie activity log every once in a while (accessible at the top of the sidebar).

Daybreakers (2009)
Posted on February 14th, 2010 No commentsDirected by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig
Starring Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill, Willem Dafoe, Claudia Karvan, and Isabel Lucas
Finally, a movie that goes back to the basic concept of vampires being bad! It’s a bit refreshing to the recent releases of movies and TV show that make cool to be a vampire. HELLO! Vampires are evil. They feed off human blood! How can that be good? Nothing good can come of it. And that’s where this movie goes.
It’s the future, and vampires have basically taken over the world. They control the media, the politicians, and the private sector. Normal humans have become the commodity (the food). And the supply is running dry… but the demand is still rising. There is hope however, and it all lies in a vampire that, somehow, managed to turn himself back into a human again. And that’s were the story starts to fail. Read the rest of this entry »

The Wolfman (2010)

Typically, when an older movie is remade for a newer generation, it is modernized. Whats the point if it isn’t, right. Well, that’s not the case for this remake of the original based from the script that was made back in 1941. There is nothing new here, it’s not even scary. Sure there were some jolted moments (more like “caught you snoozing” then anything else) and they kicked it up a bit with violence and gore. But the violence was not nearly enough to compared to some of the ultra-violence that you find in today’s horror movies. Even though I have not seen the original in a long time, Read the rest of this entry »

Robert Rodriguez’s Machete to arrive soon!
Posted on January 26th, 2010 No commentsRemember Grindhouse? Remember those mock trailers they ran in between the features? I don’t know about you, but when I saw them for the first time, I was wishing that all those movies were real!
And then there were talks about Eli Roth actually doing Thanksgiving. But you know how these things go… he probably just mentioned it in passing, but is not really serious. Well…. Robert Rodriguez was serious. His mock trailer for Machete is actually in the works. Not just rumored, but really being done. After a painstaking debate over who was actually going to distribute the movie, Deadline Hollywood reports that it’s going to be Fox (and not The Weinstein Co who did Grindhouse).
Good thing is, Danny Trejo is still casted as Machete… I just can’t see how it can’t. As far as the rest… I really don’t care, except maybe for Cheech Merin as the Pastor. That would be awesome.
Now, if only Eli Roth would make some time for Thanksgiving….
Never seen the trailer (or maybe you haven’t seen it in a while). Read the rest of this entry »

Legion (2010)
Posted on January 24th, 2010 No commentsWith Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Dennis Quaid, and Kevin Durand.
Who knew Angels could be so bad ass. I mean, really. And the Angels in this movie were the bad guys… or the good guys? I know, it’s confusing.
God loses faith in man. One Angel, Micheal, does not. Another Angel, Gabriel, follows orders and takes his army of angels to kill the one unborn child which is humankind’s only hope. You know how the movie is going to end, so you are watching just for the thrill ride.
Actually, it was less thrilling, and more hilarious than anything else. Read the rest of this entry »

Exhumed’s 24 Hour Horror Fest
Posted on October 26th, 2009 No comments
The third annual 24 Hour Horror Fest by Exhumed Films happened in Philadelphia last weekend. I got the chance to go with my fellow movie enthusiast Cinesthete (see his take on the films at Reel Friction). I had a blast. It was really awesome to see some classics in the big screen, and I got to see some new stuff that brought me to a new level of appreciation for films.
One of the unique things about this festival is that you don’t know the list of movies before hand, not even when you get there, too. They hand you a program, but instead of titles, they present you with clues or hints. Visit my friend’s site, above, the descriptions from the program (and links to the IMDB site).
Here is the list of films presented, and my thoughts on them: Read the rest of this entry »

Terminator: Salvation
Posted on May 26th, 2009 No comments

:
Skynet fails yet again in stopping the resistance’s strongest leader, John Conner, in the most pitiful way imaginable: the bad guy monologue. The movie had some awesome action scenes. The setting was beautiful (if you are into the dismal and dark, like myself). The effects were spectacular. The characters, and their performances, were very decent. There were references and nods to the originals that were appropriate. But the story was so very dry. And as far as the bad guys go… ultimately: they were lame, as well. Don’t get me wrong… the Terminators themselves were awesome. It was a great to see what Skynet sent to hunt down (and capture) the surviving humans. But the main “boss”… a highly evolved, artificially intelligent sentient “life”, fails. Read the rest of this entry »

There’s something wrong with Esther.
Posted on May 22nd, 2009 1 comment“After their unborn baby dies, Kate and John Coleman decide to adopt a child as a hopeful way to bring some joy and normalcy into their lives. Enter the seemingly perfect Esther, who’s angelic facade might mask sinister intentions.”
Oh, yeah…. creepy.

Come with me if you want to live…
Posted on May 20th, 2009 No commentsI will not be seeing this tonight, at the midnight showing, as originally planned. A shame… I recall seeing T2 at a midnight showing. First time I ever did that.
Never-the-less, I found a cool 4 minute trailer that has kept my interest peeked, regardless of the 37% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Good thing is, I’m not really expecting “ground breaking” story telling here. I’m just looking forward to seeing those T-800′s in action.

Well, Watson, we seem to have fallen upon evil days
Posted on May 19th, 2009 No comments“It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.”
I don’t know how much this film falls under the “Fictum Scientia” catagory, but judging from the trailer… there seems to be some supernatural elements. And it looks like there is some kind of “ruling the world” type of villain, so it might just qualify.
“Detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England.”
